Honoured in Lucas

NLB Creative + Events was engaged by Real Estate Agent Colliers International and property developer Integra to bring to life the stories of the Lucas Girls and the Soldiers of the Avenue of Honour as part of the Ballarat Heritage Festival

In collaboration with the Arch of Victory/Avenue of Honour Committee the Lucas shopping centre was transformed into a dedication to the Soldiers and Nurses who served in World War I and the Lucas Girls’ who played such a vital role in creating two of Ballarat’s most distinguished historical landmarks - The nationally renowned Avenue of Honour and the Arch of Victory.

Throughout the centre displays were curated with original Lucas garments and official World War I regalia. An 11-meter window decal was affixed to a window within Coltman Plaza's walkway. This decal showcased the personal stories of several local soldiers who fought in World War I, along with a roster of their names.

Residents of the community received detachable poppy stickers and were invited to contribute their own poppies to the exhibit gradually. The aim was to cultivate a poppy-covered expanse over time, symbolising unity and remembrance.

As part of the exhibition a morning tea was held to unveil a new plaque to honour soldiers Major Charles Coltman and Sergeant Percy Coltman after whom Coltman Plaza shopping centre is named. This was an incredibly special project to bring to life!
